  • Current employer in DS160 for H1b visa stamping

    Hi,

I have an US employer who has asked me to go ahead with visa stamping process. Currently I remain unemployed and have offer letter for future date of 1st Aug. In DS160, for current employer do i select 'Unemployed' and under comment indicate a future join date or do i ask my employer to revise the joining date in offer letter such that its current as of DS160 submission. I am checking this with company's attorney but wanted to hear everyone's opinion. Which option should i go for? Appreciate your inputs.

    Thanks

You can't write your future employer's name in current employer. You will not have joined the employer while you are in the overseas location, so merely asking for a current date doesn't actually make you employed. It could potentially lead to new complications - you could be asked for pay stubs or other information to show you are currently employed there. Put in accurate information. If that means unemployed, then mark it as such.

Thanks Mogu for response. Couldn't agree more.
