L2 EAD and H1

Hi,

I have applied EAD on last week of july 2010. I am waiting for the EAD approval. My wife (L1) might need to leave US on next month(September 2010). but I doubt my EAD get approved before that as the processing time is 3 months(my case July 28th to Sep 28th).
So I am planning to file H1.

is it possible/advisable to file H1 while EAD is on the process?

if not possible, any other way L2 can stay back?

Please share your thoughts if you have any information on this.

L2 cannot stay back and work using EAD unless L1 is on a short trip outside US with intention to return in L1 status.
