H1-B transfer question

I have a valid H1-B visa (valid till 2011) from a company that got bought over (hence the name does not exist). I joined a new company and although I don't have an H1-B approval yet I do have the receipt notice. I can show proof of employment at the new company.

Under this circumstance can I travel to India with the old H1-B visa?

It's not advisable to travel when the H1B transfer is in process with USCIS. The transfer might get denied or it might get approved as a consular process.

However, once the new petition is approved, you do not need a new Visa if the old one has not expired when you enter the US.
