H1B expiry approaching

I was in US in 2008, and came back as couldn't get a project.
Now i am in my home country, and the visa will be expiring in Sept last week. I intend working in US.
What is the best way to extend the visa. I haven't contacted my employer all this time.

Two options

1) The employer who sponsored your H1B can file the extension.
2) A new employer can file a new H1B petition using the CAP from the existing H1B petition.
