Gap between H1 Transfer

I am on H1B visa with company A. Company B has hired me and is willing to transfer my H1B. Can I quit A on 9/7 and start at B on 9/20? Would the gap between the last date and starting date be an issue for maintaing my legal status?

Your employer should collect all necessary documents from you and send them to Immigration. Once you secure the proof of sending the necessary documents, you can be in Company B's payroll. Proof can be in the form of USPS receipt or delivery confirmation. That's my experience so far...

I guess my question is - can I be unemployed between changing jobs and while waiting for the proof of receipt of transfer documents?

Not recommended to have such a large gap especially being on H1b.
