  • H1B petition approved in 2017 but expired, same employer | new petition?

Back in 2017, I had my H1B picked in the lottery and approved. I didn't travel and hence did not get it stamped. However, I quit the company and 3 years later, I've joined back. My role now is different than what I applied for in 2017. From what I've spoken so far, I realise that I will have to apply for an H1B extension. But my questions are:
    1. Since my role now is more of a senior manager/leadership rather than an individual contributor, Will i have to apply for an new petition or just an extension?
    2. My existing passport expired when I applied for the petition and I now have a new passport, will that have any issues?
    3. If there is a new petition now because of the new role, will this still be out of cap or will I have to go through the lottery process again?
    4. Will the break in between me joining back have an impact on the petition?
Any help on these questions is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Vish
