transferred from H4 to H1. Still use the H4 visa stamp for travell outside USA?

Hi
I came to USA last year in an H4 visa.I have my H4 visa stamped in my passport and is valid until May 2006. Last October I got a job and I transferred my H4 to H1. But my new H1 visa is not stamped in my passport.
I need to do an emergency trip outside USA. Can I return without stamping my H1 visa in my passport as I have a H4 visa stamped in my passport.I have the H1B petition copy with me.
