H1B transfer - when to tell the present employer

Hello,

I just got a new job offer, and I'm planning to take it up.

What is the latest time I can tell my current employer that I'm leaving the job? I have an 'at will' employment clause without any notice period.

Therefore, should I tell them after my H1B transfer is approved or before that?

Does it remain legal for me to continue working for them after my new employer files the H1B transfer petition?

Any pointers in this regard are highly appreciated.
