  • H1 transfer filed - need to go out of country

    Hi,

My H1B transfer is in progress but i still dont have the receipt number. I urgently need to go to India for an emergency . Would it cause any issues if i go out of country without a receipt number?. I have to go to the consulate for stamping this time in my trip as my H1B was applied in COS earlier.

Also , how long does it generally take to get a receipt number when a transfer is filed in premium processing?.

    Thanks!

It is never advisable to travel when the transfer is pending with USCIS. The extension of stay might get denied. The company attorney will receive the receipt notice in email when filed under the premium processing. The hard copy of the receipt will take anywhere between a weeks or two.
