Is H1B extension under GC process is different from Normal H1B extension

My question is
H1B extension as part of GC process i.e. after i-140 cleared, is different from general H1B extension(i.e,. not part of GC process) ? or is it same ? in terms of formalities and etc,

The process is the same. Having approved or pending I-140 only makes you eligible for extensions beyond 6 years.
