  • L1 to H1 to F1 to H1

This will be a little complicated so plz bear with me..

I have been in US for 1.5 years on L1 and recently converted to H1 (Valid till Mar 2014).

I am planning to go for a MBA from US which will hopefully begin in Sep 2012 and hence will have to get a F1 visa. This means I will have worked for 2.5 years in US (1 on H1 and 1.5 on L1) before i get into a college.

When i pass out after 2 years and apply for H1, how many years will i be able to stay in US.
will it be (6-2.5 = 3.5 yrs) or (6-1= 5yrs) or 6yrs since i did masters from here?

I need to asses this to see if doing an MBA from USA will be a financially viable option since my ROI will depend on how long i can stay here. Tnx!

6 - 2.5 years = 3.5 years. Time spend in H1B + L1 combined will be deducted from the 6 year CAP. To get a fresh 6 years, you should stay out of U.S for 1 whole year.
