H4 visa documents

I'm right now in US and looking for sending my spouse and children for H4 visa interview.
1.Do they need to carry original I-797 with them or a copy would do as I had to carry them with me while entering US?
2.Do the employer has to issue a letter?
Please let me know as I need to send them the originals soon.
