H1B Extension filing from india

Hi,

I got H1B petition approved in 2008 through an indian company, but never travelled to US.

Since my original H1B petition expired last year, do i need to file a fresh H1 this year or can i file an extension for an unused H1 petition?

Note: i did not change my company since previous H1B petition.

Your employer (current or new) can file a cap-exempt petition for you at any time with immediate start date.
