Previous L1B approved petition 221g required for filing H1 2013 cap?

My company filed L1B for me in 2008. But the visa was denied and I got 221g. All the documents were returned to my company's visa dept (approved petition and visa denial - 221g).

Now the same company is filing an H1 for me in 2013 cap and I am required to attach the previous petitions and visa denials (221g) which I do not have with me.When I went back to the department they mentioned they no longer keep all those documents.

I am not sure what to do now. Where can I get those documents and are they absolutely mandatory.
