Need info; Individual tax vs joint filing vs head of household

If my wife and I are both working, then would it be wiser to file taxes jointly or separately?
In case only one of us is working, then which option would be better?
And what if the status changes in between the year?

If there is any link that explains pros and cons of various scenarios, it would be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
