  • Investing on H1B

Hi guys, I have been in the U.S. for about 1 year and would like to start investing. I have about $20,000 to invest currently. My long term/retirement plan is uncertain and whether I will be in the US depends on my visa situation.

What are some of the safe investment options in the U.S. for a 3-6 year time horizon? Options which are easier to liquidate and moved overseas would be preferred. I've found an article on this topic which can be used as a starting point for this discussion if helpful.

While on an H1B, you can draw passive income from any business you have invested in, including US-based companies and foreign-based companies. However, what you can't do is actively or materially be involved with, work for, or draw a salary from a company that is not your H1B visa sponsoring company.
