I came to US in October 2004 on immigrant visa. I am now a Permanent Resident. Although the deadline was April 15, did I have to file income tax return for 2004?
Note: I was unemployed in October, November and December. Got a job only in January 2005.

Yes, you had to file taxes for 2004, by Apr 15, 2005.

if you were unemployed then you did not have to file the tax return, becasue you did not have any income. Unless you are filing joint tax return with your spouse. My suggestion is to call IRS and ask they will be able to help you, or go to www.IRS.gov for more information.
