Passport expiry on 11th July 2013

My brother is having passport that is valid till 11th july 2013 and his visa was approved in December 2012 for 10 years.
Can he travel in April 2013 (tentative dates 23rd April till 9th May) or he should apply a new passport before he travels.and Can there be an issue during immigration?

The entry officer will be bound to give him a stay only till his passport expiry date.
If he has a new passport, he could get upto 6 months of stay.
Since he wants to come back in May , there won't be any issues.
