  • Medical Insurance and travel querry, please help

I would like to know if i can bring my parents to US and then apply for their medical insurance from within the US as i plan to purchase the insurance from US ?

Is it mandatory that the visitors must carry medical insurance ( bought either from India or from US) at the time of their travel from India to US.?

Will they be questioned about medical insurance at the Port of Entry or does carrying the papers for medical insurance during their arrival help for the duration of their visa stamp at the Port of Entry in any way?

My father plans to travel along with my mother during aug last week mainly to acompany her as my mother does not know english and my father travelling along might help and my father plans to stay only for a month and wants to revisit US again after 2-3 months for a duration of 1-2 months again after my due date. Can some one please let me know if a person who stays for less than 1 to 1.5 months in his first visit to USA can travel again to US after a gap of 2-3 months for another short term duration of 1 month or so?

    Thanks

Health insurance is not mandatory for visitors to US. No one will ask any questions about this at entry. But it is in one's own interest to keep an insurance cover
while visiting US especially for elderly parents.

It is better you buy insurance on line now , starting the day they start their journey.
You can buy now if you know their start date and take a printout of the
receipt. That way their flight period will be covered too.

Entry on a visitor visa is at the discretion of the officer at the airport.
He may be questioned about a second quick visit and if he has a good explanation , he will be allowed in.

      Medical ...

      Hi,

Sure you can easily get medical insurance while in the U.S.

      https://www.insubuy.com/

Nope, it's not mandatory to get medical insurance from your country of origin to enter the United States.

They won't be asked for this at POE. Just in case they are, let the officer know you're getting the same here.

Also, you can get the medical insurance from the US even before your parents arrive in the country.

The process is very easy and simple while using your credit card for payments makes it all the more convenient.

      Best regards.

        Same

Thanks for the response. I have a doubt here.

If i plan to buy the insurance online even before they arrive starting from their travel date, i would not currently know for how long i need to purchase the insurance for as it all depends on the I94 stamping duration that my mother would get at the time of her arrival to US. Hence i am considering to initially buy insurance from India for a duration of 3 months starting from the travel date, and later i can always buy further insurance for the remaining duration from within US once she reaches US. Please advise if this should not be okay for some reason or any other suggestions are also welcome...

        Thanks

          Ah! There's a way out

There's a way out for this too. There are a couple of insurances which allow you to renew for a small fee of (I think) $5 only.

So you can get say for one month initially and then renew according to your final plans.

Either way, you can surely wait and get it later.

Do note that the U.S. medical insurance does not cover transit losses or transit medical problems like the ones that you get from your country of origin.

However, if you're getting insurance from your country only for fear of issues at the POE, then you don't have to worry about it, this will not be a show stopper for you.

You can buy insurance from US based companies at https://www.insubuy.com/

There are many products that will cover during travel and transit as well. While filling the form, choose coverage area 'International Including USA' and put the effective date one day in advance of the travel date (as most coverages are effective according to US Eastern Time.)

There are several products that are renewable.
e.g., Patriot America is renewable if you buy min. 3 months initially.
Protection America and Visitors Care are renewable even if you buy for min. 5 days initially.

It definitely makes sense to buy insurance from US based companies only.
            Thanks & Regards
