  • parents donot know their parents DOB

    Hi,

Since the ds160 application asks for the DOB of my parents' parents, even my parents do not have that information because at the time of their parents birth in the late 18xx, there was no system of registering birth on a birth certificate . So can my parents put "donot know" in the DOB section for their mother's and their father's DOB ? Or should they put some date based on guesswork ? Please clarify.

    thanks

I suggest "do not know". Most of the time, before a certain cut off date (such as mid 1900's) the USCIS or USDOS doesn't pursue people's birth certificates because they know they're not available. So, you can put "do not know" and it won't be held against you.
    --Good luck--
Good luck. I learned the hard way, I hope you don't have to. Immigration is interesting. Not considered as legal advice.
