My parents were issued vistor visa for 10 years.
All questions were asked to my dad. No questions asked to my mom. She was along with him.
Their interview was scheduled at 8:30AM at chennai in English. They were out of consulate by 8:45AM.
Reached by 8:00aM. A lady took the form i156 and the fees. Then my parents were sent for interview.
Dad: Wishes good morning
CO: good morning.
Finger prints were taken for both my mom & dad.
CO: Receipts for Visa application (Rs.4400).
Dad: I did not get any receipt.
CO: Go and get the receipt.
At this stage both my parents were dejected and thought thats it. What a bad start.
Dad to the lady: You did not give us a receipt for the application fee.
Lady: Yes I did, check your pocket.
Dad: I checked and I dont remember receiving any receipt from you.
Lady: OK I will give you a duplicate.
Lady hands over the orginial to my dad.
They go back in line.
CO: You are back.
Dad: Here are the receipts.
CO: Name of your son
Dad: abc
CO: Date of birth
Dad: mm/dd/yyyy
CO: Which company does you son work for
Dad:XYZ company
CO: Since how long your son is in US.
Dad: For the last 7 years.
Counsuluar: 7 years! and why have you not applied for a visa before.
Dad: I was in AirForce and couldnt get a chance.
Counsluar: How long were you in service.
Dad: 37 years.
CO: When did you retire
Dad: Two years back.
CO: How many children do you have
Dad: two sons.
CO: What does the other do?
Dad: He works for XYZ company in Hyderabad.
CO: Go and pay the fees.
They received passports after two days, with ten year multi entry visitor visa.
I prepared all the documents and letters as per immihelp. And also sent all the printouts of https://www.immihelp.com/us-visitor-...terview-guide/ interview preparation. Which was very helpful. My parents were well prepared. Except for the receipts everything went pretty smooth.
Thanks to immihelp for all the information and also to forum members for sharing their experience.
Cheers.
