Thank you for such an informative website. It provided me the much needed information about different types of insurance, the drawbacks of purchasing insurance in India prior to traveling from there. My parents were looking to get the ICICI-Lombard, but I was not so certain and your website confirmed my doubts. Specifically these were about ability to hold them liable for lack of provision of appropriate information I am used to seeing for insurance coverage. Sorry for the longish e-mail but I will get to the point. I am going to purchase the insurance from you, but before I do - I would like some additional information.
Background information:
My parents are visiting US from June 18 to September 9
Ages:
Mother - 64 (at time of arrival, turns 65 on August 25)
Father - 71 (at time of arrival, turns 72 on June 24)
Questions:
1. In my mothers case - does she qualify in the age-range 60-64 or 65-69? I know in my father's case it would not matter.
2. They both have pre-existing conditions. I am aware no one will cover pre-existing conditions. However, there was one small part that I noticed under Atlas Insurance coverage for pre-existing conditions". Quote - "Acute onset only. $15,000 (medical), $25,000 (medical evacuation) for persons under age 70". I was wondering what exactly does this mean? Perhaps I should explain a little bit. Both my parents have had heart surgeries over 7 years back and have had no subsequent problems. They both have gotten complete health check-up including heart check up and are bringing their own medications. The respective specialists have indicated that they are healthy and are fit to travel. However, even though they get check up every 6 months and have been considered fit - my concern is related to the highly unlikely event that there be an emergency, would any insurance cover it? That is why I thought best to seek clarification from you about the Atlas statement prior to purchasing the insurance. Also - does the statement mean Atlas would cover my mother but not my father?
3. Following up on the above - should an emergency arise because of pre-existing condition - does the emergency evacuation clause apply for any of the insurance companies?
4. Based on your experience with other customers, would you prefer one company over another in terms of their responsiveness to customer concerns, and general customer service?
5. I know you have advised people buy separate policies for their parents. What would be your opinion be about purchasing the insurance separately for my mother ans father from different insurance providers? Does this pose any problems?
I understand you perhaps answer multitude of queries every day and I would greatly appreciate any clarification you can provide.
Best Regards,
