Pre-Existing Condition

My in-laws are going to visit the US in March next year. Before taking a medical policy, we would like to disclose that my father-in-law has Asthma but it is controlled with medication. How should I approach taking coverage so that in case he needs to go for some treatment and it may be a result of Asthma, I am not surprised with a huge bill that I cant afford.
