  • Best visitor insurance for parents in early 60's?

I am trying to look through policies as well as read this forum but the latter, especially, seems quite depressing.

We'd like to buy visitor health insurance for our parents visiting from their home country who are in their early 60's. They don't have many pre-existing conditions, although it does sound from reading the forum that the definition of "pre-existing" is rather loose in the policies.

We'd really like to get cat **** *phic coverage, that would cover most expense in the case of a true emergency or undiagnosed condition (things like heart attack or stroke come to mind, but apparently these are often considered "pre-existing" per reading the forum even if they never had any such condition previously?).

It seems that Patriot Platinum has the highest possible coverage up to $8 million, but that Atlas America has the highest possible coverage for acute exacerbations of pre-existing conditions up to $2 million (Patriot Platinum only goes up to $1 million). Other options like Liason Travel Elite seem to have ridiculously low limits for acute exacerbations of pre-existing conditions (up to $50k total).

Any recommendations re purchasing visitor insurance for our parents visiting from their home country? Getting travel insurance there is not really an option as it is not very well developed and we wouldn't trust it.

    Thanks!

    Thanks so much.

We will call/email if we have more specific questions, but for now the questions are pretty general.

One other thing I noticed reading the policy documents is that it seems that Patriot Platinum requires pre-certification whereas Atlas America does NOT? Is this correct?

We are definitely leaning towards Atlas America as it seems that they would have a higher limit for acute exacerbation for pre-existing conditions ($2 million maximum with $2 million policy vs $1 million maximum for Patriot Platinum). Further, I would venture that Patriot Platinum would try to make things fall under the "acute exacerbation of pre-existing condition" category if at all possible as this saves them money if the policy is for an amount higher than $1 million.

Thank you for the link to the helpful web page.
