Traveling to US Consulate, Mumbai – Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC)

The area around the U.S. consulate in Mumbai is called Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC). It is located in the G Block in International Finance and Business Center (IFBC).

There are many other major establishments around the area such as Dhirubhai Ambani International School, American School of Bombay, ICICI Bank, National Stock Exchange, Bharat Diamond Bourse (Diamond Market), Citibank, Wochart Hospital, etc.

It is located in Central Mumbai between the suburbs of Bandra on the west and Kurla on the east side and hence the name Bandra-Kurla Complex.

By Train

Mumbai has two major train lines: Western and Central. Those traveling from Gujarat would be traveling on the Western line and others would be traveling on Central line. The nearest out-of-town train stations are Bandra Terminus on the Western line and on Central line.

Western Line

The nearest out-of-town train station is Bandra Terminus. If your train does not stop there, the nearest such station would be Dadar, then Borivali and then Mumbai Central.

The nearest local train station is Bandra East which is accessible from all of the other train stations mentioned above. Both fast, as well as slow trains, stop at Bandra.

From the train station, you can travel either by taxi, or auto-rickshaw or bus to Bandra Kurla Complex.

Central Line

The nearest out-of-town train station is Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (Kurla Terminus). If your train does not stop there, the nearest such station would be Dadar, then Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST).

Nearest local train station is Kurla West which is accessible from all of the other train stations mentioned above. Both fast as well as slow trains stop at Kurla.

From the train station, you can travel either by taxi, or auto-rickshaw or bus to Bandra Kurla Complex.

Metro

When the upcoming Line 2 of Phase 1 of the Mumbai Metro project completes, it will pass through IFBC. Bharat Nagar and Complex Road will be two nearest Metro stations.

From Airport

Whether you are traveling domestically from within India or internationally from outside India, either way, you would be traveling to Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (BOM) to Mumbai. Please note that even though both domestic, as well as international terminals, share the same runway, the actual airports and the way to get there are separate and about 4 KM apart by road.

You would normally travel from the airport in a yellow top taxi. There are many air-conditioned taxis in Mumbai as well. They are blue in color and are called a cool cab. You will find them in places like airports and huge shopping centers and tourist places. Otherwise, you have to normally call them and ask for one just like it is done in the U.S. Those cool cab guys have mobile phones. Prepaid cool cab from the international airport to BKC can be used as well.

By Road

You can reach BKC through Western Express Highway via the Kalanagar junction and BKC road. BKC road is a major road that passes through IFBC.
