221(g) Refusal - Administrative Processing - Hyderabad
221(g) means that additional processing is required. A Consular Officer sometimes delays a final decision on an application under section 221(g).

If you have received a letter stating more information is required under section 221(g), please follow these instructions:

  1. If you have been requested to wait until the Consulate General contacts you, please do not make an appointment. Your case requires further administrative processing and we will contact you once this has been completed. You may check the status of your case at

  2. If you have been requested to provide responses to a questionnaire, please do so as quickly as possible. After you prepare the answers and send them in using the appropriate format, the Consulate General will take the next steps in processing your case. We will contact you once the processing is complete.

  3. If your visa application processing was delayed under section 221(g) at the U.S. Embassy in New Delhi or the Consulates General in Mumbai, Kolkata or Chennai and you are instructed to reapply in Hyderabad, you must complete the following steps to be seen for an interview in Hyderabad.
    • Contact VFS (Visa Facilitation Services), at 1-8-313, Chiran Fort Lane, Second floor, "LINUS," Begumpet, Secunderabad - 500 003 (opposite the Consulate General). You need to make sure that this VFS office has all of your case and contact information.

    • After providing your information to VFS, appear at the U.S. Consulate General, Hyderabad on any working Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Please bring your 221(g) letter and any requested documents.

    • If your interview in Hyderabad is for the same visa application and is within one year of receiving your 221 (g) letter, you will not be required to pay another application fee.

If you have applied at one of our embassies or consulates outside of India, have received a 221(g) letter and have been instructed to reapply in Hyderabad, please make an appointment on the VFS for an interview. You will be required to pay the application fee and to fill out a new application form.
