Parents Visa denied twice
My dad has retired, mom a housewife. They got their visa rejected twice from MUmbai Consulate on the grounds that they did not have enough money to support themselves in India. The officers never bothered to check the papers, both times. Simply based on my father's income they assumed he was not stable financially, but in fact we own a big house and land back in India. all this info was in the documents that they were carrying.
I guess the consulate people simply go by what they hear without bothering to ascertain what the truth is really.
I wonder why do they even ask for the the paperwork to be prepared then wasting so much time for everybody when they dont even want to look at it even for a minute!!!
Very disappointed with the whole thing.

Parents visitor visa granted on second time
My parents got their visitors visa (10 year multiple entry) in their second application. Here is my suggestion to prospective applicants:
1. Prepare a concrete travel plan alongwith estimated expense.
2. Show that you have more than enough money to meet the expenses.
3. One sentence short answers during the interview helps.
4. Have an interpreter even if you know english. You get more time to think of the answer.
5. NEVER apply with other distant relatives, neighbors, etc.. they dont understand any such relationships (Main reason for disapproval in the first attempt)

Good luck!

Visitor visa (10 yrs) granted from Mumbai - Marathi interpretor
My parents got 10 years multiple entry Visa in one go. This happened because of the detailed description and guidance provided on this website and also the experiences shared by people.

There appt. was at Mumbai at 10:30 AM. They reached there by 8:30. Unfortunately they had to wait for 5 and 1/2 hrs before the interview actually started. So at 2 PM there interview started.
They opted for a MARATHI interpretor.
It seems whosoever opted for English got the appt. faster.
The officer started asking the following questions:

Q1: Why do you want to go to USA?
A: To see my grandson.
Q2: Who is going to sponsor your tickets & stay?
A: My son
Q3: On which visa your son is there in USA?
A: Working Visa (H1) (Note: At this point, my mom wanted to help my father answer the question, but the officer asked her not to speak in between)
Q4: Where were you working earlier?
A: Gave details. (My father is retired from his job now for last 5 years.)
Q5:When did you retire?
A: Gave details
Q6:Do you want to stay permanently in USA?
A: No, we plan to visit our family members and visit some tourist attractions and come back in 4 months, may be little earlier.

At this point, the officer told them that there visa has been granted.

Thanks everyone on immihelp for the help, sharing and guidance.

visa granted
Hi,
My parents got 10yrs multiple entry visa at the mumbai counsulate.
The interview was very simple with basic questions been asked and the VO was extremely plesant.
My dad who works at a senior management level was very confident.I guess your body language, eye contact
communication skills and dressing sense , matters a lot.My advice to everybody is that if your parents are
educated tell them to be plesant ,composed and confident. They may not have great language skills but an overall aura
matters a lot.

questions asked to dad:
why do you want to go to the USA?
who is sponsoring you?
where do u work?
how long you intend to stay in the USA?

that was it.no papers were asked.he told that there visas were granted.

Visitor Visa from Delhi
It was very easy. Parentinlaws chose Hindi at the window when asked. The VO was American. They greeted her in Hindi but didnt get any reply so they greeted her again in eng and the entire interview continued in eng since they prepared for eng cuz we were not sure whether they will get hindi option or not at the window.

They were asked the following questions:

Where are you going to stay?
Why are you travelling?
How long will you stay?
how long has your Son in Law been with the company?
How long has he been in US?
What do you do? To both
When did you retire? To dad
What did you do before retiring? To dad
Which university did you teach for?To DAd
When will you retire? To my MOM since she is in Govt Job
What do you teach?To MOm
What school high school or middle or primary? To MOM
how long have you been in this job?To MOM
when will you retire?TO MOM
How many children do you have?
where are they?

She didnt ask for any papers at all not even 134. They gave 134 and cover letter along with the application but she returned 134 and cover letter.

So all in all it was gud. We dont know if its 10 yrs or less. We will have to wait for the passports.

Thank you so much immihelp. This site is actually not just immihelp but IMMENSE HELP.

US Visitor Visa for parents
June, Telugu Interview.
10 Yr Multiple Visa issued.

I was so worried about preparing my parents for the interview being here in the US and talking to them on the phone and through chat.

But this site Immihelp.com has provided accurate and upto date information and was of great help, infact the only site I depended on to prepare my parents.

Though, you would still have to prepare, and I and my wife prepared my parents and had mock interviews with the questions from this site.

Immportant thing is the preperation, accuracy of information and confidence in answering the questions.

We helped them from start to finish using the information on this site about the documents and tips to prepare.

The following were asked:
1. Why do you want to visit USA
2. How many children do you have
3. What is your son doing in USA
4. To DAD: Are you retired?
5. When did you retire?
6. Where dis you work and as what
7. Do you currently pay income tax?
8. To Mom: What do you do?
9. How long has your son been in the US?

They answered all confidently but then , the prayers are a must. They were issued a 10 yr visit visa.
Thank Immihelp.

Thank God.
