L1, L2 Visa

This is a wonderful forum and i have got many information from it. Keep sharing the information irrespective of you got through or not that would be very helpful for the future applicants.

I had my interview on April 4th morning 8am at chennai consulate. I reached there by 7 am and had a security check at 7.30 am( don't keep mobiles and any electronic items with you) and then i have been issued a token no. This token no will be unique through out the process. and then i moved to next building where the Finger prints are taken. There will be many counters and we can find out the respective one through the LCD Display. After fingerprints are being taken they asked me to move to the next building where visa interview will happen. Cash counter is available in the same building(14th counter) and i have given my DD and cheque and got back a receipt from the cashier. Then i was asked to wait along with other people for my turn to come for the interview. There was also LCD displays available and Token no's will get generated in random for to attend the interview . I had to wait for 10 minutes and reached the counter.

I was little bit nervous which we shouldn't be. The previous person in the queue argued with the consulate person and she made her angry and so he got rejected too. My nervousness got increased by seeing it.

she called me by my token no and i went to her and greeted her. she also replied with the greeting.

The questions are below.

What is your experience with the current company?
What is your Total experience?
What is your income?
What is your specialization?

I couldn't able to convince her for the last question and she told me that , my skills are generic and wouldn't able to provide this specialized visa and rejecetd it.

I personally request all to prepare well for this question as this is an important for L1B.

Below questions are very important so prepare well and more important project those well during your interview with high level of confidence.

I want to thank this forum and all who put their experiences. It really helped me to prepare well in advance.

While going to consulate don't time mobile phones and any other digital items like CD, pen drive etc. Only bring your documents and that too in simple plastic bags.
I would suggest for marriage pictures don't bring your marriage album. I saw one lady bringing a huge album and was struggling to carry it. Rather you can take separate 10 pics. That is enough.

Also, those who have minor spelling mistakes or few details wrong in the DS160, DO NOT WORRY. When you go for document verification you can tell them the mistake. Fill up a few DS160 in advance and give them the few DS160 confirmation sheet. They will accept it.

The visa interview windows are very near to each other and others can see and hear our conversation with the VO. Dont bother about what others are hearing or seeing. Just be confident and loud in answering.

Following is my experience of the interview.

me: Good morning Sir.
VO: Good morning
---I passed my documents and he removed and separated and was looking at them and typing something on the computer.
VO: how many years are you with xxx company
me: 4 years
VO: how much is your total experience
me: 7 yrs 3 months
VO: what are you going to do?
me: explained about my project in US and put words like propriety and unique to my company solution provided to the client
VO: what kind of training you have undergone to get this special skill (yyy)
--I had before explained to him my expertise in yyy.
me: I told 3 different trainings,total 4 weeks and more than that my experience while actually working has given me the expertise
VO: which client are you going to work for?
me: ABCD
VO: why only you have been chosen for this project? tell me something other than you are for so long in the company?
me: told about the technology, domain, total experience etc. that I have edge over others.

While he was asking me the questions, he was typing on the computer.

Then he stamped my 2 I129 and gave it back to me and said your visa is approved and you will get the passport in a week's time.

He did not ask my wife any question. He just looked at her. Not even for my daughter.

Its quite easy. Dont worry. The person before me was struggling to answer and even his English so not so good and even then he got the visa. Be confident, dont look around here and there.

For all the L1B or L1A blanket rejection people, donot worry if your visa got rejected, the VO sugggested for filing individual or H1b so that you can file your case with USCIS. in these days every one is getting RFE, try to provide more documentation and attachments to avoid RFE, then you donot get RFE.once petition got approved from USCIS, I will surely say that your Visa is approved. There is no written statement in USCIS but i will say based on the history if you get petition approved then you will get visa for individual or H1B.
If you have blanket rejected today, you can file individual this evening..no issues with that, if you have blanket rejected the better option you can go now is H1B if your company is filing otherwise file individual, i suggest dont file B1 to manage the works.And after all be honest about the data in your visa applications.

I went to L1B Blanket on November 2010 and it was refused by the VO and he suggested to go for L1B Individual that time. Why they are suggesting Individual means, if they are not satisfied by our answers at the time of interview, the VO asked us to go for Individual or H1B, because in either cases we have to file our petition from USCIS, it means USCIS will have enough time to read our case.
Later my company filed my petition under L1B Individual category, I got RFE, I answered RFE very perfectly, the best way to avoid RFE is at the time of filing petition prepare your project requirement document(PRD)with all possible questions and more detailed answers, more attachments. Then you can avoid RFE.suppose if you get RFE, answer or prepare documentation like that even a non technical person can understand your case, its clarity.Provide as many attachments to USCIS. After all with gods grace my petition got approved in march.After that I am feeling tension for PA, I appeared PA on 31st March 2011. My lucky number is 7, iam thinking to get receipt number whose count is 7, i got the same.at that time i decided i will get visa.this time i went very confidently, i took receipt number, submitted dd, gave finger prints, finally i went to the same person who rejected my blanket last time.

VO: give me your papers
VO:Purpose of your travel
Me:I started saying , I am working in CSI project at offshore . then suddenly VO stopped me and said you people delivering speeches. I stammered and came to know its better to answer up to the point and short
VO: are you married
Me: No
VO: do you have any rejection
Me:I said My blanket rejected in november 2010 and VO asked me to go for individual so i came with this category now
VO: So last time blanket this time individual , other than that no difference?
Me:Yes no difference
Vo marked as A and round up around that and signed the papers, he kept my passport and said you can leave now.
Finally with gods grace its approved
So luck has to be there, but luck will come only after some days dedication and hard work.
Be confident dont fear, i know its hard to maintain like that , belive in god.

As interview dated are not available at mumbai consulate because of relocation of the consulate to BKC,We went to delhi consulate.

VO ask very few question,like
how many yrs Exp do you have in this company?
for which specialize skills you have?
how many peopleare here in team?
how many are there in US for this project?
why you and not other in your team can go for this project?

I answer well all the questions

and she just Give us BLUE form and said please tell your employer to file differnet visa L1 individual or H1B.

I am really not getting the reason for rejection?

can anyone suggest what can be the option now for me?please need guidance.

Yestarday my l1 b got approved and I am very happy.
I am very thank full to one and all who had posted on this site.I have prepared all the questions posted here before going to interview.

VO had asked me following questions

I went near counter 9 vo seems like an indo american
I thought that i can manage his voice while standing in the line

when i went near counter he told one minute and came back after 10 minutes so i am not having time to atleast wish him.again he had come to conunter and checked something and told one more minute and went back.so at this time i was feeling tensed but once he had came back.

VO:Hello can you give me your docs.
RK:I have given him my I129s and my passport

VO:from which company ur coming sir
RK: YYYY

VO:OK. r u not having red folder(BEP pepole will be given this)

RK:I told no i have only these docs

VO:what you do there

RK:I implement YYYY tools to clients

VO:what is ur experience in the comapnay

RK : 1 year 4 months(i have total 4 years exp)

VO:what is you qualification
RK:Btech computer science

VO : from which university your from

RK : Andhra university

VO : have you travelled before(as i have a valid L1 b from my previos company)

RK : NO

VO : why you have not travelled
RK:(I was sopmewhat tensed though i have prepared for this question).I told at that time i have not got chance to go as due to recession client had postponed the project and i have got a better oppurtunity in another company in the mean time so i have moved to that company.

VO:what is your specilization
RK:I told YYYY methodology and yyy framework using we do implementation

VO:who is your client
RK:GGGG

VO:your visa is approved sir.you will be getting in 1 week time

Be confident while you answer.better preparation and confidence can get you visa easily.what ever you answer,answer confidently.

Guys, try to reach the place atleast 30 minutes before, no need of any hurry as the Security people and VFS will guide you. Do watch the display boards for your token numbers as well as your payment/interview counters.
My interview counter no. was not showing up on the display board for about 30 minutes, but it will show up, so be patient.

Me: Explained my roles at offshore and at onsite, both should differ.

Me: Very few people uses it and it is rare.

VO: So you are telling me that this skill is rare (be careful while you use the word rare),
    how many people in your company are using this technology or methodology?
Me: Z number of people

VO: Why did the client choose this particular rare skill for their projects?
Me: This tool is flexible enough to implement complex business requirements.

VO: Why you, and not any one else of your team?
Me: Experience, business, system and process knowledge.

Thanks a lot to immihelp and people adding there experience. It helped a lot. In delhi Consulate if your interview is @ 10:30 reach there @ 10:00 only. Security Guard announces the time slot of the and then form a line . Then they check for your confirmation and passport and allow you to go in. Your can carry mobile and bags, however you have to submit them at security counter and they will give you a token. Then there is a waiting lounge inside where you have to wait till u numbe is displayed. After that you have to go to the displayed counter to submit the docs and they will ask you to go to Counter No.24 for the fee submission. Then you have to goto Counter 9 or 10 for finger printings and then only you should give the interview when your number is flashed.

VO: Good Afternoon, How r u doing?
Me: Good, How r u?
VO: Fine Thanks
VO: Which company you are working for?
Me: XYZ
VO: For how many years you r working for XYZ?
Me: a years and b months
VO: What you will be doing in US?
Me: I will be developing 123 application.
VO: What are the special skills required fo this project?
Me: Knowledge of these type of applications and working on same domain.
VO till this point of time was maintaining very little eye contact and then she started signing some paper and stamped them.
She told me that your visa is approved and you will be receiving your passport on company's address.

Tips: Confidence is key to success.
Maintain eye contact.

march 29th, Appointment time at 9:00 AM

My token number was displayed on the notice board.

Me: Good Morning.
VO: Hi.How are you doing?
Me: I am good thanks. How about you?
VO: Good.
Me: Gave my documents.
VO: How long you are working for this project.
Me: 5.3 Years.
VO: How many years with the company?
Me: 5.3 years
VO: when was this project started?
Me: 5.3 years
VO: Can you tell the evolution of your project in from day 1 to till now?
Me: (I work for a GUI application)..it had 27 screen and now it has 800 screen with 7 legacy system. I also told the below. "I appriciate you for asking this question".
VO: Well thanks for your appriciation, I approve your visa.
Me: He gave me the sealed 129S form and i saw his name. I told thanks Mr.xxxx. You have a good day.
VO: Nice talking to you, you will get your passport in 4 working days and get ready to fly US.

Tips: Never mind how you have dressed, talk louder and bold. Never concentrate on other interview. Also please hold the token slip safe. I was kepping that at shirt pocket and searched all place at council.
