B1 Visa interview - Chennai
Hello, I had applied for B1 at Chennai consulate & interview was scheduled on 30th August.
Day 1 , 3PM - Photo & Biometric information at the VAC. Just reach VAC before 30 mins of your appointment, head to 1st Floor where security will guide you appropriately.
Take only DS160 confirmation copy, appointment copy & Passport. You should be done within 30 mins as there are no queue's, many counters & process moves fast.
Tip : Avoid Bag, Laptop . Cellphones were not checked & I think you can take it along.
Day 2, 9AM - Queue started to build up already but they were only letting people who have appointment within 1 Hour of current time. So you are advised to reach 45 mins prior to appointment time.
No cellphone, bag, handbag . Only documents with a folder/file allowed
After passing through queue for physical security check & scan of document folder, I was routed inside the embassy office where B1/L1/H1 are redirected to different places.
Feel free to ask the staff , they are helpful
H1 applicants are asked to be seated in a hall in the beginning & others have to move on.
Post this, all L1/B1/B2 will join a common queue where staff will guide them to available counters.
Here passport is scanned & photo is verified by staff. No questions.
Later you will be guided to another line where Biometric is re verified. Here you will face an US officer . They will ask for your Given & Surname, DOB.
Then a staff asks you to join a specific counter based on L1 or B1 or B2 seperately.
VO - Why you want to travel to US?
Me - I have joined YYYY company as Lead. This travel will help me with Knowledge Transfer on YYYY topics which will be required for India IT operations. I also plan to meet stakeholders to understand the business processes.
VO - Where are you going?
Me- City & State Name
VO - When have you joined YYYY Company
Me - I have recently joined, its been more than a month.
VO - Where did you work previously?
Me - YYYY
VO - How long will be your travel?
Me - 2 weeks
VO - Ok, your Visa is approved.
Me - Thank you very much !!!
No documents asked other than Passport.
Some of the Tips are
> Do take all printout & related documents whether they ask or not
> Practice crisp answers to all common questions
> Dress appropriately, as per your experience. Formals / Blazers suggested
> Be very attentive & dont engage in un necessary conversation with others
> Hear carefully when in front of counter, as there is glass shield in between with a 3 ft gap between you & VO
> Smile & greet the officer as soon as he appears.
