B1/B2 Visa interview
Hi all,
This site has really helped me in preparing for my visa interview and below is my experience.
I have applied for a visa back in 2010, it was rejected and I was given for 214(b). Even though this was 8 yrs back I was really nervous……
Interview date: 05/23/2018
VO: What is the purpose of your travel?
Me: I would be visiting our head office in Chicago to attend some business meetings, will meet couple of our new clients to understand their requirements so I can come back and make necessary work arrangements to provide better service. These meetings will also help us build better relationships with them.
VO: What is the duration?
Me: 2 weeks
VO: But the application shows 4 weeks?
(Initially when I filled the application I was asked to update it as 4 weeks by my supervisor however based on the posts I have read ….. I realized it would be hard to convince the VO that meetings would be for 4 weeks.. I have then updated the invitation/support letter to show 2 weeks)
Me: Initially we assumed it would take 4 weeks during the application time however later based on clients schedule we reduced it to 2 weeks
VO: Fair enough
VO: What is annual salary?
Me: xyz lakhs
VO: Why are you chosen to travel?
Me: (I have not expected this question) I have on boarded couple of clients, since I have experience I get to meet these clients
VO: Golden words “Your visa is approved”
Me: Thank you
Here are my tips:
1. Dress well, looks are important but do not overdress (like tie or blazer)
2. Prepare well so that you sound confident during the interview
3. Try to avoid “training” as the purpose for travel unless it is necessary
4. Do not show the travel duration as > 2 weeks if it is just for meetings.. it will be hard to convince them that you would spend so much time just for meetings
5. If your visa gets rejected.. do not be upset and it is not the end of the world. This kind of mindset will help you beat the nervousness.
All the best!!!
