Visa Experience

We had our appointment at 11:15 AM, and we (Myself, Wife and Son) reached there 30 minutes earlier. You are not allowed to carry electronic items or any Zip bags (including laptop / back packs) inside the consulate. There's a small shop nearby where you cab leave most of your stuff. I left my mobile there. You can carry your wallet inside, and you might need it to.

Before entering the consulate, the visa interview letter would be checked and a token number give to you. After this, you would be allowed to enter the consulate and pass the security check.

In the pre-check counter, all your documents would be checked including the HDFC receipts. You would have to get yourself finger printed after which you would guided to the interview block.

Since we had a 2 year old son, our interview call came in pretty quick - were surprised as there were many others waiting.

Interview Experience

Officer: Good morning to you, how are you doing today
Myself: Good morning. We are all doing great, thanks. How has been your day so far.
Officer: Good, thanks!!!
My 2 year old son in all good spirits wishes her good morning, and she wished him back smiling. She asks how old he is.
I hand her the documents.
Officer: I am just bringing up your details. She then gives some documents back.
Officer: After looking at her screen, how long you have been working for XYZ
Myself: 6.5 years in total
Offier: What project are you going for:
Myself: Explained my role (this is the most important part). Be confident and crisp, that's very important. What you have filled in the online application form is very important.
Officer: How many people report to you
Myself: Answer
Officer: How long you've been married
Myself: 4.5 years
Officer to my wife: your educational qualification
Wife: answers
Officer: Your visa is approved, you would get it in a week
Myself and wife: Thanks!!!

TIPS
1. Ensure you carry all documentation
2. Keep them segregated and neatly arranged - so that you don't get tensed searching for documents during interview
3. Be calm and confident
4. Prepare and rehearse for the the frequently asked question. Especially about skill set / projects - its important to prepare, otherwise you might end up talking about insignificant things and miss out on the key things. Remember, the interview is for a a very short duration.

All the best!!!
