L1B Visa interview on 16th August 2012
Hi,

First of all i would like to thank everyone for sharing their experiences in this forum. It has been of immense help to me.

I had my L1 Blanket visa interview on 16th August 2012 at US Consulate in Chennai.

My appointment was at 10:30 am but the Visa interview took place around 12:15 PM after completing all other formalities.

VO(a young guy): Good Morning ...How are you doing?

Me: Good Morning ... I am doing great ...How about you?

VO: I am doing Good

VO: Where are you from?

Me: YYYY Company

VO: What What?

Me (After raising my voice a little more): YYYY Company

VO: Please explain about your Specialized Skill?

Me: I have Developed JJJJ Tool. The Tool does the following functions .... (Maintained eye contact with VO)

VO: There are several such tools in the market. What is Special about this one?

Me(again maintaining eye contact): Explained in more detail pinpointing the exact nature of tool, the modules etc

VO: Who is your client and what do they do?

Me: ZZZZ Company and what all they do explained.... (Maintaining eye contact)

VO: Where will you work in US?

Me: At YYYY Office in location.

VO: You developed the tool in India?

Me: Yes

VO: So why do you need to travel to U.S?

Me (Maintaining Eye contact): Explained the reason in two sentences

VO: Who is your client?

Me: ZZZZ Company

VO: Where will you work?

Me: At YYYY and if required i will visist ZZZZ for the following purposes...explained

VO: Kept typing something, looked at my form again and again

After that gave me a leaflet and the two copies of Documents back with Approved status.

VO: Your visa has been approved and the passport will be couriered to you.

Me: Thank you

And so with all help and almighty's blessings my visa got approved.

Some things i noted down:

1. Try to overcome nervoursness. Initially i was nervous. But then went ahead and explained well.
2. Talk in a sufficiently audible voice and in a slow and clear manner.
3. Use correct layman words. Don't throw too many technical terms to impress the VO.
4. If your tool is unique and is important they give enough opportunity to explain and speak.
5. Keep a smile all throughout and maintain eye contact.
6. Greet VO and wish at the end of the interview. I missed the last part.
7. Reach the venue 35 minutes in advance. Its more than enough.

Thats it from my end. All the best to everyone!!!
