L1A Blanket Visa Approved at Chennai
Apologies - the original thread got posted before I could finish. Re-posting again.

Summary of my experience given below. I am skipping the generic procedures at the OFC and the Consulate as it has been detailed several times here already.

Important points to remember :

1. Ensure you have the sticker with the right visa class affixed to your passport after the OFC appointment. For individual petitions it would be marked as L1 and blanket would be marked as L1B. Do not confuse between the visa class A (managerial) and B (specialized skill)here.

2. Carry the same DS160 documents which would be stamped after the OFC to the consulate for the PAI.

3. Carry 3 set of petition documents (I129 and I797). They are given in sets of 3 for a reason - not as backup in case you lose one set. I saw atleast 2 people who came with only 1 set.

4. Confidence is important - dress code is not. Remember you represent your organization in most cases and so dress accordingly. Tie and Blazer giving an edge during PAI is an absolute myth.

5. Answer only to the point - if they need additional details they will ask you for it. I saw several folks answer at length unnecessarily and the interviewer had to cut them short. This sort of throws you off track.

6. For L1A remember to prepare on the following lines

- Why you and not someone already at onsite?
- Your reporting structure (above and below) with roles and responsibilites
- your roles and responsibilites - highlight what makes you different from a typical project manager and stress on hire and fire, approval & signatory authority etc
- Why cant you do this from offshore?

Questions to me

1. My designation and company - Senior Project Manager
2. Work location (client or parent company) - Client
3. Client Name and Location
4. My onsite salary - Above 100k
5. My manager name and role and his manager name and role - for me it was Enagagement Manager and VP
6. My direct and indirect reportees at onsite - 8 direct and 4 indirect
7. Any Managers reporting to me - Yes, 1 of them
8. What is different from his role and mine - No hire and fire for him but I have that authority. Keep it short here. Stress on your authority.
9. Total years of experience in the current company - 13 years

There were no questions to my wife. My son ( aged 10) had the following questions

1. Pointing to my wife - who is this?
2. Pointing to me - who is this?
3. Have you been to the US before - yes
4. Do you like it there - just a casual question which my son answered

He stamped 2 sets of I129 and returned them to me saying my Visa is approved. Asked me to carry on to the POE (not in check in luggage) when I travel. My PAI was scheduled for 11:30 am. I reached at 11 and was let in immediately. I was out of the building by 12 noon.

I went through the last few pages on this forum and it helped me prepare well. Please reach out to me in case you have any questions. Would be glad to help.
