Interview Experience:
We were scheduled for 2:20pm. We arrived at 1:45pm. We were called in to be seen by Officer J. Martinez at 2:30pm. Interview lasted about 10-15 minutes. She was kind throughout the whole process.
Questions:
1) She asked by wife (USC) to verify all her biographical information (Full name, DoB, Address, etc.)
2) She asked me to verify all my information
3) She asked most of the I-485 questions (Are you a terrorist, have you been arrested, etc.)
4) Asked us to tell her about our relationship, how we met, when, where, and how our relationship progressed.
5) When did I propose, when did you marry..
6) She asked about our wedding and who attended, at which point I informed her we didn't have a wedding, but instead filed for Common Law Marriage. I stated that we were planning on having a ceremony once I graduated and obtained my Bachelor's (in other words, once we were financially comfortable)
7) Asked if we planned on having children, to which we answered "maybe some day". My wife stated we have two fur-babies, to which the officer laughed.
She thanked us and handed me a white sheet that said my case needed to be held for further review. She told me that IF approved, I would receive my Resident card in the mail. She didn't specify how long it would be reviewed for or if my case "looked good." I woke up this morning to a text and email notification from USCIS that my card was ordered and will receive in the mail.
If your marriage is real, do not worry. Remember, they are trying to find scam marriages. The officers are just regular people with regular families. They understand situations are not perfect (we had limited evidence because we are young and going to school).
Glad the journey is over! Now time for the citizenship.
