L1B Individual Visa Approved in Chennai
Hi,

Thanks to this forum as this helped a lot, and now it’s time to give it back with my own experience.

OFC:
It was on 29th Dec 2.30 pm slot in Chennai. As instructed in this forum, I just wanted to reach before 15 minutes of my proposed time slot. As there was less traffic reached the OFC office by 2.05 pm and they allowed me inside. By 2.35 pm I am out of VAC office with a sticker on the back of my passport and a Visa Application Center seal on my DS-160. That’s it... Day one is over... (Please keep this DS-160 copy safe for the interview)

You need to take only your Passport, Appointment confirmation Letter and DS-160 confirmation page. These three documents will be sufficient for the OFC.

I took all the other documents as well, as I am afraid like all of you people. What if they ask some other document!! You can take whatever document you want, but only above mentioned documents are needed and keep those outside and let all other documents sleep inside your document pouch for a while :)

Visa Interview at Consulate:

Mine was 10.30 am slot and I reached by 9.30 am. I am allowed in the queue and after few security checks we are asked to move to the next adjacent building where Visa interview takes place. (Don’t worry about the directions; there will be people to guide you always in every corner of the building... so you just need to go in the direction they show you)

Once you enter the Visa Lobby, first check will be on your passport and finger prints and you will be asked to move to the next counter where the passport is scanned once more and you get some color coded in the sticker pasted in the backside of the passport. And then I am asked to join the queue where actually the queue goes to Visa officers. Once your turn comes, there will be a guy standing and informing you to go to particular counter based upon your Visa type and category. I believe there will be separate counters for every visa type and category and I have seen student visas are routed to specific two counters.

There was some general questions asked about my company, experience, what I will do in US, salary and in less than 3 minutes, I heard the words that my visa is approved and the visa officer took the passport and handed over the I-797B back to me. No one asked about I129 to me.

By 11.30 am, I came out of Visa consulate. (Yes, it took 2 hours in total and that too you need to stand for whole time… People with kids are provided with chairs to sit inside Visa lobby and given priority in security checks and in other queues… So people going with their kids need not to worry about long waiting time standing in various queues)
