I was looking for this information on the official USCIS website, the FAM for consulates etc and couldn't' find a solid answer yet… maybe anyone here has experience.
I am a permanent resident since almost 1 year, and I will have my baby born outside the US to stay with the families for a few months. When I return to the US next year I understand I need to bring her with me on the first visit and I can file the application for the GC at the Port of entry in secondary inspection.
I think I have to bring her passport and certificate of birth only in order to file.
I read in one forum that the baby will get a I-551 stamp which is the same as the GC until I receive it in the mail, but it can be approved right at the airport. However, then I read that I can't travel with her until I receive the GC but with this stamp you can normally travel?
Also, what are the waiting times for the GC? I read that not the regular processing times apply but that it is a special processing and can be as quick as 4 weeks.. so question is can I travel with her in the meantime and how long does it really take?
Will there be a passport photo taken and fingerprints?
Also would it be a problem if she takes the father's last name which is different than mine since we are not yet married, he is not a GC holder but just visa holder or do I simply have to prove with the berth certificate that she is my child and it doesn't matter?
Thanks for any input here.
These questions I can't find answers for…
Thanks
