My husband was in the US on a J1 Visa which expired on July 11, 2014 with no 2-Year requirement. We got married a week later during his 30 day grace period on July 18th, 2014 and then applied for his Adjustment of Status which was received on August 4, 2014 (before the end of his 30 day grace period). We just received his Employment Authorization and AP combo card in the mail yesterday and are currently awaiting interview scheduling for his AOS. He would like to visit his family in Costa Rica in November, however we are really nervous about something we didn't know causing him to be inadmissible.
It looks like the only reason you would be found inadmissible is if you were in the US out of status. Since we applied for the AOS during the grace period, we are unsure if the grace period qualifies as being "in status" or not because the J1 Visa Status expired on July 11, 2014.
Would this or anything else cause any issues for him trying to come back to the US?
