EB3 I-140 approved, thinking about EB2

I have an approved EB3 and waiting for the processing of I-485. Since EB3 is retrogressed, I'm looking at EB2 filing with the same employer. My questions are:
1. What will happen to my EB3 application when I apply for EB2? will it still continue to process?
2. In case I get denied in EB2 will I be out of status or I can still go back and wait for I485 on EB3 application?
