Hi everyone,
I live and work in the UK and I am engaged to my American girlfriend I met on a 6-month business assignment last year. We have been in a long-distance relationship (she lives and works in the USA) ever since and have now made a decision to build a life together in the United States.
We are considering getting married in the UK and waiting for the Green Card to arrive before I relocate to the USA. Am I correct in assuming that once (and if) I receive the Green Card I can relocate to the USA to find and commence work immediately without any further delays?
I am reluctant to go through the K-3 or K-1 routes, because they require me to apply and wait for work authorization in the USA, making me economically inactive. As much as we want to live together ASAP, I would like to leave my job in the UK and transition to a new role in the USA as smoothly as possible without a 90-day (or so) wait.
What are our options to ensure we get to be together as soon as possible, but also minimise my unemployment period?
