It's probably because they assume that if you say you don't have copies of your GC, it's probably because you applied for asylum. Your case proves that they're idiots bent on creating problems for everyone even if they didn't claim asylum.

Hi, cafeconleche, Thanks for reply, actually i didn't apply for asylum but i dont have my passport with me , i have copy of that , thats why they are creating problems for indian renunciation. I don't know why they don't have knowledge of this thing that we can not get citizenship without green card.

Do NOT tell them you claimed asylum. You're going to have to make something up. But, I thought they stopped asking people how they got permanent residence. Have they started again? I really don't get these numbskulls. Go in person if you can.

There was a large number of Chinese students (on student visas) who claimed asylum (on advice of U.S. government) after the Tiananmen massacre, and subsequently obtained Green Card status. It has been a strategy of some immigration attorneys in SF Bay Area to encourage Chinese clients (on visitor visas) to claim asylum based on the "one child rule." Such claims ("one child rule" basis) have often been denied early on or later in Immigration Court, as "frivolous."

The Green Card is unavailable, as it was "surrendered" to USCIS when U.S. citizenship was acquired.

I have two problems. One I don't know what they mean by how I came to America. Are they looking for a simple answer that I came in a plane?

And two, I don't have a copy of my green card because when I received my citizenship oath, they took it away.

I tried calling them but they are closed due to New year. I will drive down tomorrow to give them the letter and don't want it to be a wasted trip.any help is appreciated.
