I have wrong name of my spouse on my passport

Hello,

I noticed my wife's last name on my passport shows with my surname, but she never changed her maiden or adopted my surname. How can passport department assume she has changed her last name after marriage, as we have no documents admitting this.

Soon she will be joining her new job abroad & plans to take me along her on a dependent visa. Will this be of concern if her last name my passport shows different then on hers.

Can anybody guide me with this.
