I am hoping someone can give me some advice regarding the Overseas Citizenship of India. This is my situation:
My mother was born in India in 1939 to Americans who were working in India at that time. My mother lived in India from the time of her birth until the age of 18 when she left India to attend University in the United States. My mother returned to India (with my father) to work in 1971 and I was born in India in 1972. I lived in India until I moved to the U.S. in 1990.
Like my parents, I hold a U.S. passport and my ancestry is not Indian. However, I feel a strong connection to India, the place of my birth and my mother's birth, and I was wondering whether I would be considered eligible for OCI status?
Any thoughts?
Thank you.
