Hello,
I am a Canadian born person of indian origin. I would like to apply for a PIO card.
Great grand father born in Veraver, Saurast District, Gujarat in 1893 and died in jamnagar, gujarat in 1941. however, he spend many years in Tanzania where my grandfather and father were born. Unfortunately, my great grandfather's birth certificate, passport have all been misplaced or lost. He died almost 70 years ago! I have the details for my grandfather and father, but they, like I said, were not born in India.
I do have a affidivat registered in 1981 with the Korogwe, Tanzania magistrate written by one of my great grandfathers sons (my grandfather's brother) that attests that my great grandfathers birth certificate/passport were lost or destoyed and that clearly states my great grandfather's birth date and birth place. In fact, this is the only proof that I have where and when my great grandfather was born.
The indian consulate here in Toronto will not accept my PIO application because they say that they cannot accept this affidivat as proof of my great grandfather's birthplace.
Any advice? Seems that for those of us who are 3 generations removed from India, finding appropriate documentation will be impossible! I can't be the only person dealing with this, can I?
