Can't get clarifications from SF-CGI so wondering if anyone
can answer the following questions. (Please post experiences that are recent APril'2010 onwards since several changes
have been introduced recently.
1) Anyone encountered any issues where last Indian passport had
full middle name spelled out, but US passport uses only middle initial?
e.g Indian Passport: First Middle Last
US passport: First M. Last
Instructions say that names should match, but I don't know if they'll
see issue with above. (Our applications were returned since wife's
last name was different. Resolved that, but don't know if the middle
initial will be an issue).
2) New instructions are asking for naturalization certificates/certificates
of citizenship.
Now our kids automatically became citizens after we naturalized, but
we did not apply for certificates of citizenship as this was not necessary.
We directly applied for thier US passports (which is a proof of US citizenship
for all intents and purposes). So am wondering if I really need to get
certificates of citizenship for the kids now to apply for OCI (can take several months)
Would appreciate any recent experiences on these lines.
[My applications were returned twice...first name differences and then
probably for surrender certificate. Second time they just said look at website and did not provide any reasons etc. Questions seeking clarification etc go
unanswered.]
Also, wondering if we made an error in the online application for OCI can we make the fix on the
printed application...since the online app can't be changed after it is submitted.
