I recently got my US Passport and want to apply for OCI, but given the timelines are 3-4 months and I may have to travel to India in Dec/Jan, I am not sure if I should apply for OCI or get Indian Visa. Few questions I have for the experts here:
1. Are we supposed to send original US passport at any point duing the OCI processing? Embassy website mentions that self-attested copy of US passport needs to be sent.
2. If original US passport is not required in OCI processing then does that mean that I can start the OCI processing but in case of emergency travel to India (while OCI is being processed) I can still apply for Indian Visa and travel to India on US passport - i.e. OCI process is totally independent. OR Do you suggest that if I am expecting an emergency travel then I should just travel on Indian Visa and apply for OCI once I am back in the US.
3. Last but not the least, can I apply for SC along with request for Indian VISA or they need to be separate processes?
thanks again!
