ALC number problem

Hi...I have encountered this strange occurance, I am on an H1B visa and I applied for a green card through the agency whic sponsored me 2 years ago. Till now, I have never received the receipt for it. Another friend of mine also had applied for the green card through this same agency and she received her receipt within 3 months...and we applied at the same time! But strangely, my agent has "proof" and she gave me the ALC number for my application indicating that my application is in the work force. How do I cross check this and wht is going on.
