Schengen visa for non US citizens

Hi,

I plan to travel to my home country India and wanted to come back via Europe with a halt of 5-6 days in Germany/Spain. I have to get my H1B visa stamped in India. Currently i only have the H1B approval document and the F1 visa stamp(expires in 2014). So is it even possible for me to apply for a Schengen visa as of now since i dont have the actual H1B visa stamp?
