F3 Visa Applicants Back to India. How long to stay to keep Sponsorship Eligible

We US Citizens have applied for US Visa for our married Sons/ Daughter in 2007. But we came back to India due to our Age and Financing Shortages.

So our question is - How long we can stay in India while waiting for our applications become current?
