i94 & H1B Visa expired. H1 Transfer applied - Can I start working?

My i94 & H1B visa expired in Nov, 2017. My employer filed for an extension only in Dec, 2017.
Now I am applying for a H1 Transfer with a new employer in Feb, 2018.
Given that the H1 Transfer is applied, can i start working with the new client while the case is pending...

I am a Canadian citizen who lives in Canada and works from home for a company in the UK. I dont do anything other than coding for their customers using my own laptop and I never visit a client site. So all my work is done by me using my laptop.
