  • OCI card format changed recently, or are there different kinds of OCI cards ?

My wife applied for her OCI about a few weeks after I applied for mine. We both our OCI cards today, and they are different from each other.
Mine says "CERTIFICATE OF REGISTRATION" and "OVERSEAS CITIZEN OF INDIA" on the front cover whereas her's only says "OVERSEAS CITIZEN OF INDIA" on the front cover.
Besides, her's has two blank pages inside while mine has none.
Also the format/fields are different in the two OCI cards - along with a few other changes such as missing "spouse name" field in inside back cover in mine.
    Have others noticed this too?

    What else is different?

What else is different about them? Does yours or your wife's card have the U Visa on it?

As far as I know, there is only ONE kind of OCI card.

No, neither of our cards has any U sticker in them.
Mine is exactly like what is listed in the sample : /oci-card/sample-oci-card.html
Her card (which was issued a week or so later) is different.
In addition to the differences I already listed, her card has two pictures of her - one in the same spot as in mine, and one on the same page off to the right which is superimposed lighty on the page...likely a security feature. Mine says "LIFE TIME VISA" on the last page, her's has "LIFE LONG" listed under "Visa Type" on the 2nd page.
I think both cards are valid, and I just happpened to get one of the last of the old format cards, and she got the new format card. I was just curious if others have got the new one too.

It sounds good. However, to be safe, I would recommend carrying your old passport(s) that have the U visa stickers on them, along with the new passports and the new OCI cards every time when you travel to India. Who knows which "sarkaari babu" would want what! If these are your first OCI cards then you should be fine also, because both cards have the word "visa" on them.
